Areas that are oil fields

Schedule 1, paragraph 2 sets out the consultation process that the appropriate authority must follow before formally determining an area to be an oil field.

  • The authority must give written notice of a proposed oil field determination to all licensees whose licensed areas fall wholly or partly within the proposed field, and to any other licensees whose interests may be affected.
  • Licensees who receive the notice have 60 days from the date of receipt to submit written representations to the authority.
  • The authority must consider any representations received within this 60-day period before making a final determination.
  • Following consideration of representations, the authority may confirm the determination as originally proposed or make it with modifications it considers appropriate.
