Corporation Tax Act 2009 section 1179FN

Percentage of qualifying expenditure translated into credit

Section 1179FN sets the rate at which qualifying video game expenditure is converted into a tax credit.

  • The credit rate for qualifying video games is 34% of the qualifying expenditure.
  • This percentage is applied at step 5 of the expenditure credit calculation process set out elsewhere in the Act.
  • The Treasury has the power to change this 34% rate by introducing new regulations, without requiring a full Act of Parliament.
  • Until any such change is made, the 34% rate remains in force for all qualifying video game expenditure credit claims.
