Savings (Government Contributions) Act 2017 section 6

Short title and commencement

Section 6 provides the formal name of the Act and sets out when its provisions come into force, including the power to phase in the Help to Save scheme for different groups and areas at different times.

  • The Act is formally cited as the Savings (Government Contributions) Act 2017.
  • The Act generally comes into force the day after it receives Royal Assent.
  • The government's duty to pay bonuses into Help to Save accounts does not apply to accounts opened before a date set by the Treasury in regulations.
  • The Treasury may set different start dates for different categories of eligible person and for different geographical areas.
