Income Tax (Trading and Other Income) Act 2005 section 144

Meaning of "genuinely intended for theatrical release"

Section 144 defined what it meant for a film to be "genuinely intended for theatrical release" for the purposes of the film-related tax provisions, but this section has been repealed.

  • Section 144 was part of a group of provisions (sections 136โ€“144) dealing with the tax treatment of expenditure on films
  • The section provided a definition of "genuinely intended for theatrical release," which was relevant to determining how film expenditure could be relieved for income tax purposes
  • All of sections 136 to 144 were repealed by Finance Act 2006, section 178, and Schedule 26, Part 3(4)
  • The repeal took effect from 1 January 2007, after which these provisions no longer apply
