Income Tax (Trading and Other Income) Act 2005 section 829

Overview of Part 8

Section 829 introduces Part 8 of the Act, which provides an overview of the special rules that apply to relevant foreign income, including how it is charged, what deductions are available, and what relief exists when income cannot be brought into the UK.

  • Part 8 governs the charging of relevant foreign income for individuals who are taxed on the remittance basis under sections 809B, 809D or 809E of ITA 2007
  • Where the remittance basis does not apply, Part 8 allows certain deductions when calculating relevant foreign income, as set out in Chapter 3
  • Relief is available under Chapter 4 for individuals who are prevented from transferring their foreign income to the United Kingdom
  • The section acts as a roadmap to the three main topics covered by Part 8: remittance basis charging, deductions for foreign income, and blocked transfer relief
