Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003 section 62

Earnings

Section 62 defines what counts as "earnings" for employment income tax purposes, covering not just obvious pay but also benefits and other rewards from employment.

  • Earnings include any salary, wages or fees received from employment.
  • Gratuities, profits or incidental benefits count as earnings provided they are money or money's worth.
  • "Money's worth" means anything with direct monetary value to the employee or anything capable of being converted into money or direct monetary value.
  • Other statutory provisions may treat additional amounts as earnings beyond this core definition.
