Interest on repayment of tax overpaid etc.

Section 219 establishes that when Revenue Scotland repays overpaid amounts, it must include interest calculated from the date the original payment was made until the date the repayment is issued.

  • Revenue Scotland must pay interest on all repayments it makes, covering the period from when the original payment was received to when the repayment is issued.
  • The repayments covered include repayments of tax, penalties, and any interest previously charged on tax or penalties.
  • Repayments of amounts lodged with Revenue Scotland in respect of tax payable on a transaction are also covered, with interest running from the date the amount was lodged.
  • The interest rate applied to these repayments is the rate set under section 220 of the Act.
