Corporation Tax Act 2010 section 357X

Introduction

Section 357X introduces the chapter that identifies which trades and activities are excluded from the Northern Ireland corporation tax rate regime, and provides powers to amend those definitions.

  • Chapter 17 specifies which trades count as "excluded trades" — these are trades that cannot benefit from the Northern Ireland rate of corporation tax.
  • Chapter 17 also specifies which activities count as "excluded activities" — again, these are carved out from the Northern Ireland rate regime.
  • The chapter includes a power allowing the government to change the definitions of "excluded trade" and "excluded activity" in the future.
  • There is also a power to define the meaning of "back-office activities" for the purposes of this regime.
