Interest on tax recovered to make good loss due to taxpayer's fault

Section 88 has been repealed and is no longer in force.

  • Section 88 formerly dealt with interest charged on tax that was recovered to make good a loss caused by the taxpayer's own fault.
  • The section was repealed by the Finance Act 1996, Schedule 41 Part 5(8).
  • Any cases involving interest on tax recovered due to a taxpayer's fault are now dealt with under other provisions of tax legislation.
  • Accountants and advisers should refer to current HMRC interest and penalty provisions for the rules that replaced this section.
