Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 section 290

Savings, transitionals, consequential amendments and repeals

Section 290 deals with the transitional and consequential provisions that accompany the consolidation of chargeable gains legislation into this Act, including amendments, savings, and repeals of earlier enactments.

  • Schedules 10 and 11 give effect to consequential amendments and transitional provisions or savings arising from the consolidation of the legislation.
  • No royal charter, letters patent, or statute granting any person or body an exemption from taxes can be relied upon to avoid capital gains tax chargeable under this Act.
  • Schedule 12 lists the earlier enactments and instruments that are repealed, but any previous repeal subject to a saving that is still in force is preserved.
  • The Interpretation Act 1978 rules on the general effect of repeals continue to apply and are not overridden by this Part of the Act.
