Gains and losses on disposals of residential property interests

Section 57C introduces special rules for calculating chargeable gains and losses when a person disposes of an interest in residential property, where that disposal is not a non-resident CGT disposal.

  • This section applies to disposals of residential property interests that are not non-resident CGT disposals.
  • It was introduced by Finance Act 2016 with effect from 15 September 2016 and amended by Finance Act 2019.
  • The section directs taxpayers to Schedule 4ZZC of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 for the detailed computational rules.
  • Schedule 4ZZC sets out how gains and losses on qualifying residential property disposals should be computed.
