Tax Credits Act 2002 section 57

Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 (S I 1995/2994 (N I 18))

Section 57 updates a reference in Northern Ireland road traffic legislation so that the old tax credits used to determine eligibility for funded medical examinations relating to seat belt exemptions are replaced with the new tax credit references.

  • This paragraph amends Article 25(2)(b) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995, which deals with seat belt exemption applications in Northern Ireland.
  • The Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland may make payments covering the cost of medical examinations for certain applicants seeking exemption from wearing seat belts.
  • Eligibility for these funded medical examinations was previously linked to receipt of working families' tax credit or disabled person's tax credit — both now abolished.
  • The new qualifying criteria replace those old credits with receipt of any element of child tax credit other than the family element, or receipt of working tax credit.
