Meaning of "offshore infrastructure"

Section 161A defines the term "offshore infrastructure" for the purposes of the capital allowances rules on expenditure connected with the reuse of offshore oil infrastructure.

  • Offshore infrastructure includes offshore installations (or parts of them) as defined in the Petroleum Act 1998, whether located in UK or foreign waters.
  • It also covers pipelines (or parts of them) located in, under, or over UK territorial waters or designated areas of the UK continental shelf.
  • Pipelines in foreign sectors of the continental shelf are equally included in the definition.
  • Foreign sectors and foreign tidal waters are defined by reference to areas where countries or territories outside the UK exercise rights over the sea bed, subsoil, and natural resources.
