Meaning of "qualifying expenditure"

Section 270BA defines what counts as "qualifying expenditure" for the purposes of structures and buildings allowances.

  • Qualifying expenditure must be capital expenditure on the construction or purchase of a structure or building
  • The expenditure must not be excluded by rules relating to the acquisition or alteration of land
  • The expenditure must not be excluded by the market value rule, which prevents inflated claims between connected parties
  • The expenditure must not relate to the provision of plant or machinery, which is dealt with under separate capital allowance rules
