Certification of environmentally beneficial plant and machinery

Section 45I establishes the certification process that determines whether plant or machinery qualifies as environmentally beneficial for the purposes of enhanced capital allowances.

  • Plant or machinery must be certified by a designated body to qualify as environmentally beneficial.
  • Certification confirms that the asset meets specific environmental criteria set out in a relevant technology list.
  • The Treasury may by order designate the certifying body and establish or amend the technology list.
  • The Finance Act 2019 amended this section as part of changes to the environmentally beneficial plant and machinery regime.
