Capital Allowances Act 2001 section 543

Contribution allowances under Part 9

Section 543 deals with how a person who contributes capital towards another person's dredging expenditure can claim capital allowances on that contribution.

  • If you contribute a capital sum towards someone else's dredging costs, you are treated as having incurred capital expenditure on dredging yourself
  • This means the contributor can claim dredging allowances under Part 9 of the Capital Allowances Act 2001, even though they did not carry out the dredging directly
  • The contribution must be a capital sum โ€” revenue contributions do not qualify
  • The allowance is based on the amount of the capital contribution, not the total cost of the dredging works
