Registration plates

Section 27A gives the Secretary of State the power to make regulations setting out the specifications for vehicle registration plates and requiring them to display additional information beyond the registration mark itself.

  • The Secretary of State can prescribe specifications for registration plates, covering their size, shape, material, and other physical characteristics.
  • Regulations may require registration plates to contain or display additional information beyond the standard registration mark or special registration mark.
  • The form and manner in which any such additional information is displayed on the plate can also be prescribed by regulations.
  • Registration plates are defined broadly to include any plates or devices used for displaying registration marks or special registration marks and fixing them to vehicles or trailers.
