Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 Schedule 3 Paragraph 14

The Pollution Control and Local Government (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 (S.I. 1978/1049 (N.I.19))

Paragraph 14 of Schedule 3 updates a cross-reference in Northern Ireland pollution control legislation to reflect the replacement of the old vehicle excise law with the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994.

• This paragraph amends Article 36(1) of the Pollution Control and Local Government (Northern Ireland) Order 1978.
• The definition of "licence" in that Order is updated to refer to the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 instead of the former Vehicles (Excise) Act (Northern Ireland) 1972.
• The territorial scope is also updated so that the reference changes from "Northern Ireland" to "the United Kingdom".
• These are consequential amendments ensuring consistency across legislation following the consolidation of vehicle excise law.
