Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 Schedule 3 Paragraph 24

The Road Traffic Act 1988 (c. 52)

Schedule 3, paragraph 24 updates references throughout the Road Traffic Act 1988 so that they point to the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 instead of the older Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971 and related earlier legislation.

• Multiple sections of the Road Traffic Act 1988 are amended to replace references to the Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971 with references to the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994.
• Specific section cross-references within the 1988 Act are updated to point to their equivalent provisions in the 1994 Act — for example, section 19 becomes section 21, section 20 becomes section 24, section 16(2) becomes section 12(2), and section 37 becomes section 57.
• References to vehicle registration under historical legislation dating back to 1920 are replaced with a broader reference to registration under the 1994 Act or any corresponding earlier legislation.
• Some sub-paragraphs have since been removed by The Road Vehicles (Approval) (Consequential Amendments) Regulations 2009, which took effect on 29 April 2009.
